Pulau Tiga Park consists out of the three islands Pulau Tiga, Pulau Kalampunian Damit and Pulau Kalampunian Besar and was awarded the status of National Park in 1978. It can be reached from Kota Kinabalu in an hour boat ride and sits in the middle of Kimanis Bay.
Tiga Island has a few resorts, a rest house, a tourist office and many well marked trails that bring you to all interesting sights, mud baths and views. It was formed by an earthquake followed by a volcanic eruption on the 21st of September, 1897, making it one of the newest islands in the world. It is also known as Survivor Island as it was the place where the first seasons of this immense popular TV show was filmed. Kalampunian Besar Island is a small sand cay mixed with coral leftovers quietly changing according to oceanic currents and monsoon winds. Kalampunian Damit Island is known for its dense vegetation and enormous amounts of banded sea snakes that roam the underwater world and lay eggs on shore. Don't worry, you won't be surrounded with them, but if you look under rocks and tree trunks you can easily spot them.
