Some excellent diving opportunities have been discovered around the southeast part of the Malaysian Peninsula. For divers, the provinces Payang and Johor are used to get to the islands just offshore. Pulau Tioman, the largest of them all is also one of the most beautiful with stunning rainforest peaks, white sandy beaches and an excellent marine underwater environment. Pulau Aur, Pulau Dayang, Pulau Lang and Pulau Pinang are as beautiful but slightly less popular since arranging a dive tour should be prepared beforehand. The inshore islands Rawa, Babi Hujung, Babi Tengah, Babi Besar, Tinggi, Mentinggi and Sibu can be crowded local holiday destinations offering everything from beaching, diving, snorkeling and kayaking to bars, seafood dining, entertainment and some nightlife. Most islands can be reached from Mersing (province Johor), Tanjung Gemok (province Pahang) but also at one of many tours from Singapore. Around the coastline are many other small harbors that offer ferries to some of the more inshore islands.

The islands in the South China Sea have been of strategically importance as they were well known stopover points for merchant ships (trading vessels) to fill their drinking freshwater supply. Most of the islands are all well protected to conserve its underwater natural beauty. There are many beaches known as turtle hatcheries and some offshore islands are famous for sightings of whale sharks and manta rays. Many of the coral reefs are extremely healthy providing excellent chances of spotting uncommon critters as well as the common ones. It is a diving destination known worldwide with many different dive sites that should entertain novice as well as professional divers.
